The place of victory

Ten times in the book of Revelation believers are described as those who conquer.  We are victors, never victims.  Even if we die for our faith, we die in victory.

It is impossible for a Christian living in obedience to God to be defeated.  To live in victory is our inheritance.

We define victory, of course, in an entirely different way than the world does.  For the world, victory means an easy life, triumph over all who oppose us, life on the top, not on the bottom.

For Paul, to live in victory sometimes meant being treated like the scum of the earth, yet even when he possessed nothing, he had everything.

For the world, the means of achieving victory also looks different.  Victory comes through hard work, financial success, using others for our own ends, good looks, personal popularity or a lot of “luck.”

But in the end the victory it achieves is a hollow one, destroyed by the first waves of adversity that come along.

Right now those waves are rocking a lot of boats.  Many people have gone from feeling victorious to feeling precarious pretty quickly.

But we have a different route to victory, and it does not depend on anything that is out of our control, let alone God’s.  Our victory comes through entering the place of peace.  And the doorway is the Holy Spirit.  Ask for his help.  Invite his presence.  He will not disappoint you.

In the Bible, the sea represents the dwelling place of evil, which is why there is no sea in the new creation.  It was in the midst of a storm on the sea that Jesus fell asleep and demonstrated the perfect victory of God.

He offers us that peace now, just as he did the disciples in the boat then.

Take it - it’s the best gift you’ll ever have.

Welcome to the life of victory.  There’s no place like it.
